Perched on the steep face of the Chicoasén Dam in Chiapas, Mexico, Adry del Rocío's latest mural breathes life into the structure with its vivid imagery and profound symbolism. Spanning an impressive 120 x 200 meters, the mural features a child cradling a luminous source of water, surrounded by colorful parrots, honoring both the natural splendor of Chiapas and the diligent workers of the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE). These workers have been maintaining the dam, a crucial source of clean energy, since its establishment in 1974.
Adry's mural stands as a symbolic celebration of life, harmony, and the region's rich biodiversity. The parrots, native to Chiapas, soar across the mural, symbolizing the freedom and abundance of the land. The child represents future generations, entrusted with the responsibility of preserving this delicate balance. In her artist statement, Adry describes the mural as a tribute to the "mystical heirs" of this legacy, those who work tirelessly to sustain Mexico’s clean energy.
Collaborating with CFE Nacional and Privativo Social Strategy, Adry's mural not only enlivens the dam but also serves as a powerful reminder of the necessity of sustainability and environmental stewardship. This project was a collective endeavor, with Adry expressing heartfelt gratitude to her brother Carlos Alberto and many others who contributed to realizing this ambitious vision.
Globally recognized street artist Adry del Rocío has garnered over 60 awards throughout her illustrious career. Her work on the Chicoasén Dam stands as a vibrant testament to the power of art in celebrating culture and promoting clean energy in Mexico.
