An Artistic Journey in Bucharest

Bulgarian artist Aleksi Ivanov recently transformed the streets of Bucharest with his vibrant mural titled "Tales," created as part of the BSBSA (Belgrade Sofia Bucharest Street Art) initiative. Renowned for his diverse artistic approach and public art projects, Ivanov spent a week in the city engaging in creative workshops, delivering an artist talk, and crafting this expansive mural. The artwork delves into the shared folklore of the Balkan region.

A Tapestry of Balkan Folklore

The "Tales" mural beautifully captures the richly interwoven folklore traditions of Romania, Bulgaria, and Serbia. Ivanov adeptly integrates mythical characters with modern urban features, depicting figures such as the Karakondzul, the Rusalka, and the Giant. The mural also includes nods to vampires, dragons, and graffiti artists. A tribute to Bucharest’s street art culture is seen in elements like a subway car featuring tags by renowned graffiti artists Mser and Erps. These intricate details lend the mural a dynamic, layered quality, inviting the audience to uncover their own interpretations.

Engaging with the Community

Throughout his stay in Bucharest, Ivanov openly shared his creative process and insights with the public. His street art workshop and artist talk were opportunities for participants to engage directly with his experiences in large-scale mural creation, urban space transformation, and community-centric art. Each day of the project saw Ivanov dedicating up to 14 hours to meticulously complete the mural, reflecting his strong commitment.
